June 2012 – First ever whole society joint piece

In preparation for a flashmob in Princesshay Shopping Centre to promote blood donation, all 6 groups in the society joined together for the first time ever for one large joint performance of “I Need a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler. It was first performed at the summer concert, and then again in front of the Mayor of Exeter 5 days later.

June 2012 – Website Created

July 2012 – New Logo

October 2012 – Harmonics founded

Harmonics became Exeter’s 7th group. Formed in October 2012 by Charlotte Sidwell and Zoe Fitzsimmons, they specialize in classical and liturgical music and occasionally sing Evensong at Exeter Cathedral.

27th October 2012 – Guest appearance at Military Wives Concert.

Thanks to Eddie Henley’s extensive contacts, the Semi-Toned boys sneak on for a sneaky 4 songs at a Military Wives concert.

4th November 2012 – A Cappella invades the Firehouse

Biggest joint A Cappella evening yet with all 7 groups performing.

16th November 2012 – Semi-Toned on TV

Thanks to Children in Need being held at the University of Exeter, the A Cappella Society gets its first appearance on live TV with Semi-Toned singing live on BBC Spotlight, lunchtime.

23rd November 2012 – Support Act for Beverley Knight

Having really come on over the last term, the Semi-Toned boys manage to clinch the position of support act for Beverley Knight at the Barnstaple Christmas Lights ceremony

8th December 2012 & 9th March 2013 – Semi-Toned and Sweet Nothings appear live on BBC Radio Devon (respectively)

The society makes live radio for the first time in its history with Semi-Toned and Sweet Nothings in March featuring on John Govier’s morning show.

2nd March 2013 – Voice Festival UK 2013 South West Regional

The society hosts the South West regional of the Voice Festival UK 2013, the competition taking place in the university’s very own Forum Alumni Auditorium. Bouncing back after last year’s defeat, and this time on their home turf, Semi-Toned win the regional and clinch and place in the final.

15th March 2013 – Voice Festival UK 2013 Final

The Semi-Toned boys fought it out in the name of  our society, our university, our region, our pride and honour! The first year an Exeter group had ever made it to the final – but were beaten by Vive from the Guildhall School of Music. Not really a fair fight, to be honest! The boys did us proud. Well done guys!

20th March 2013 – Voice Festival on National TV

Fantastic final blast of the year – clips of the boys from the VFUK final make National TV on the One Show.

16th May 2013 – Sweet Nothings on Local TV

Sweet Nothings take Devon by storm when performing on both BBC Radio Devon and BBC Spotlight (local news) at the Devon County Show.

3rd June 2013 – Aquapella come to town

Semi Toned and Sweet Nothings are joined by Baths Aquapella for a joint concert. Aquapella go down swimmingly (pun intended).

4th June 2013 – BOAT PARTY!

A Cappella society host the first of many Boat Parties! The event was a rousing success and people left praising the society.
